Atlanta, GA – The SMLL finally kicked off the season after the first two weeks of the season were cancelled due to weather. Week 3 saw three SMLL teams all take on out of league opponents.
Western Carolina took down NCAA DIII Brevard 11-6 on the road. This is the first win for an SMLL team over an NCAA team. Joey Nardone had six goals and three assists and Isaiah Price went 78% from the faceoff dot while having three goals of his own. South Alabama defended their home turf, beating the Hooligan’s Men’s League team out of Mississippi 8-6. Georgia College headed north to Marietta to play a solid NAIA team in Life U. The Bobcats lost 9-3, LSM Ben Gotham had one goal and two assists and Whit Wilson and CB Ritter each had a goal.
Week 4 kicks off Friday night when Morehouse hosts Emory. This is the first Divisional game on the season and will have big playoff implications. Morehouse defeated Emory twice last season, 11-4 in the regular season and 8-5 in a tournament consolation game. Three of last year’s Final Four teams, UT Chattanooga, Georgia College, and Mississippi State, will meet in Chattanooga on Saturday. Mississippi State took down UTC 9-8 in last season’s opener while defending champs Georgia College looks to extend their win streak that dates back to last season. Western Kentucky hosts Louisville, the #11 team in NCLL DII. They look to avenge their 12-6 loss to the Cardinals at the end of last season.
